Our Story

Zymbolic SEL was founded in the Bay Area by two first-generation educators who saw firsthand how Social Emotional Learning could transform classrooms and communities. It started as a single Restorative Justice and violence-prevention program in an Oakland military school — then grew, through collaboration with classroom teachers and special educators, into a partnership with schools and organizations across Northern California.

Today, we work with educators, students, and families to build the skills that matter most — self-awareness, empathy, and the courage to show up for one another.

Zymbolic leadership and founding story

Zymbolic Is a Vibe

Zymbolic is our adjective to describe a deep sense of connection which arises naturally when people use 4 fundamental communication skills: self expression, curiosity, deep listening and making each other feel heard.

We create fun and exciting opportunities for students to practice these skills through a unique blend of SEL, Restorative Justice, play based learning and STEM. They learn to vibe with each other and build healthy relationships that can move through conflict and into collaboration.

A zymbolic interaction is always a meaningful one.
